Types of verbs
The girls are PLAYING tag.
There are different types of verbs.
* Main verbs
The main verb is the most important verb in a sentence. It tells you what the person or thing does or is.
ex. Maria walks to school every day.
ex. Maria has been walking to school since she was little.
"has" and "been" are also verbs, but "walk" is the verb that tells us WHAT she does. "Walk" is the main verb.
* Action and non-action verbs.
Action verbs express an action like: run, walk, sing, shout, laugh, write, play, pet...
You can act out action verbs :)
Non-action verbs express states like: to think, to believe, to own, to like...
It is almost impossible to act out non-action verbs :(
* Helping Verbs
Helping verbs help another verb say something a little bit different than it would by itself.
ex. Kathryn is singing a song.
--> "singing" is the main verb, "is" helps "sing" to say something
a little bit different than "Kathryn sings a song."
Lo mismo sucede en espanol.
ej. Katarina esta cantando una cancion.
--> "cantando" es el verbo principal, "esta" ayuda a "cantar" a
decir algo un poquito diferente que "Katarina canta una
cancion."
Here are some more examples.
ex. I have seen that movie, it's good!
ex. I have been walking for 5 hours.

_* Linking Verbs
Linking verbs link or connect two ideas together.
Linking verbs don't really have their own meaning, but they are important. They tell you that two ideas go together, that they are connected.
ex. My dog is white.
ej. Mi perro es blanco.
Tanto en espanol como en ingles, "is" y "es" no tienen un significado importante en estas oraciones. Pero si son importantes! "is" y "es" conectan, unen o pegan los ideas "my dog" y "white".
